JOHN 10: 22-30
The time came for the feast of the Dedication. It was winter, and Jesus walked back and forth in the portico of Solomon. The Jews then gathered around him and said to him, “ How long will you keep us in doubt? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
Jesus answered, “ I have already told you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name proclaim who I am, but you don’t believe because, as I said, you are not my sheep. My sheep hear my voice and I know them; they follow me and give them eternal life. They shall never perish, and no one will ever steal them from me. What my Father has given me, is greater than all things else, To snatch it out of the Father’ hand, no one is able! I And the Father are One,”
POINT OF REFLECTION
The Gospel boldly speak to us who are believers and who are non-believers. And the only distinguishing note Jesus has given is when he says “ I have already told you, but do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name proclaim who I am, but you don’t believe because, as I said, you are not my sheep.” Being followers of Christ our belief should not be defined by the flowery words coming from the mouth instead our belief must be seen as a way of life. Like Jesus telling to the Jews, his words was not an object of encouraging a believing heart instead highlight his work as done in the Father’s name. As St. James said in 2:18, “ show me your faith without your works and I will show you my faith with my works” It is really difficult for a man’s faith without work to surface and be recognize. It is therefore easy for a man’s faith to surface with the quality of his works.
Believer takes Christ as their model. He regularly goes to church, reads the Bible, prays every day, always give thanks to Lord regardless of circumstances, resembles life in the teaching of the Bible and give tithes regularly. Furthermore, Christians must be tough against temptation, share the gospel of God at all cost, hold on to Jesus no matter what happen in this life and listen and knows Jesus as his personal savior.
